3 Steps to Strategic Planning

Now that we have discussed a lot about Strategic Planning, it’s time to finally start having one. Strategic Planning helps in driving your organization forward and will serve as your solid plan, allowing anyone who worked with your organization to understand the direction you are going to.

So, what are the 3 steps that you should take prior to creating your Strategic Plan? Allow us to list it down and explain it one by one.

Prepare to Plan

It means getting your team together, the key people in your organization that will help in running it. Creating a strategic plan is not a one-man thing. You need to tell your team that you are planning to create a strategic plan, and you need to ask them what their vision is, where do they see themselves in the organization, what function will they be doing in the organization.

Maybe you are wondering why this is a crucial part of strategic planning. This talk with your team prior to getting a facilitator is essential because it allows all of you to learn each other’s vision and function, making sure that you have the same vision as the rest of your team. That the direction that they are going to is not contradicting with your plan, or that you are figuring what’s working and what’s not.

Create a Plan

This is where the facilitator comes in to sit down with you and your team and create a plan for you. So, take note that this plan is not a concrete plan, and it could change depending on the outcome. When you think one strategy is working, then you can continue applying that to your process. If something is not working, then it needs to be revised.

But before you start applying those strategies in your organization, you need to have a written document of those strategies, showing your goals, action plans, time frames, KPIs, etc. This is not something that can be done quickly. It all depends on how fast you can gather all the necessary information needed to create effective strategic planning, regular discussions, and applications.

Execute the Plan

Now that you have prepared your written document of plans, it is time to put it to the test. You need to let your team know about the plan, how are they going to function, their role in the organization, the KPIs for each of the goals, and the outcome that you are looking for.

Take note that if this plan works, it will make your and everyone’s life in the organization a whole lot better, at the same time, reaching the goals that you want to achieve for the organization.
